“The life of this world is but play and amusement While the Abode of the Aakhirah is best for those Who fear (Allah). What have you no intelligence?” (Qur’aan)
A Brother from Zambia writes:
“Recently in Zambia, a renowned Maulana from South Africa was invited by a relatively newly formed youth organisation for a 2 day lecture series.
After the lecture series, the shaykh accompanied by his host ventured on a "safari" trip , where a game animal was hunted down. Brief video footage of the Shaykh speaking about his "reflections" after the hunt appears on the Shaykh's official Twitter account.
Soon after the lecture series, a Tablighi Ijtima in Lusaka took place. One of the senior alims from the Tabligh Shura of India vehemently warned and advised the community of Lusaka of their gross engrossment in vacationing, specifically pointing out fishing excursions, a passion deeply rooted in our community, especially amongst the youth, who are glaringly absent from the masaajid.
Colossal amounts of money, time, talents and skills are squandered on holidays, fishing and hunting trips, and sport with all its paraphernalia - golf is a growing craze amongst the youth and old alike.
With oppressive Covid restrictions once again in place after a brief period of 'normality', we do not seem to have taken heed from the "wake up call" of the recent past.
The actions of scholars and people at the forefront of Deen rather than addressing the transgressions of the community, seem to further exacerbate them.
Kindly do fervently suplicate for our wellbeing in this life and safety and protection from the everlasting doom of the hereafter. JazakAllah”
